THE BLADED HAND

I am actually clueless when I first heard of this documentary movie. If it wasn't explained the way the main character explained it to me, I wouldn't be able to write anything about this movie at all. The main character I am referring to, happens to be a close friend from college who is now based in Russia working as Tactical Trainor of the Russian Special Forces is none other than Daniel Mumbakki Foronda. It was a great privilege to watch the private screening happened last March 14, 2014 at the Sev's Cafe Manila. I also had the chance to meet the other prominent people behind the success of this documentary movie. Director and Writer of 'The Bladed Hand" Jay Ignacio, Jean Paul Zialcita of Kadangayan, Pepe Manikan and Tess Chua to name a few.

I was really excited to write about this documentary movie because we seldom see and watch this kind of movie in mainstream. The movie is about the rich culture and heritage of the Filipino Martial Arts that rooted from the time in memorial. It focuses on the root, where this culture has started and discovered, the different style from the different martial artist and practitioner and how it was being taught and used as a defense during the early times.

The movie also emphasized on the global impact of the Filipino Martial Arts in military and how it influences the used of this art in Hollywood movies. The prominent and respected names in this field has also been featured in this documentary movie like Guru Dan Inosanto and daughter Diana Inosanto. Other names includes FMA luminaries SGM Diony Canete, SGM Cacoy Canete, Master Christopher Ricketts and a lot more.

Giving my humble review on the venue for the movie's private screening is the Sev's Cafe Manila, partly owned by journalist and reporter Hawi Severino. The place was amazingly fantastic because of its rustic dining style, artistic decor and designs, percussion instruments placed neatly on stage like the Bonggo Drums, Kulintang ensembles and Snare drums. The tables and chairs complimented to the whole Cafe's interior.

And for the food, Sev's Cafe serves good pasta dishes at a very reasonable price. The Pesto pasta was good and only the freshest freshly squeezed Calamansi Juice was being offered that night.

It was an awesome night experience for me, one because I get to see a long lost friend for 23 years, good to see you again Daniel and you still look good and even better today, second, first time to see a documentary movie about our rich culture which not most of us are aware of, and last, the chance to meet good, talented and artistic people we have in the industry. Kudos to you Director Jay Ignacio!
